I cut grass to support myself go to school – Gov. Masari

KATSINA – Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina on Thursday while charging students to seize every positive opportunity at their disposal to improve on their education, said he cut grass to support himself in primary school.

Governor Masari said he has to cut grass to put breakfast on his table the following morning before going to school.

The Governor made this known during the maiden matriculation of about 136 students of the Katsina State Institute of Technology and Management, KSITM.

He urged the students to strive for themselves, utilise positive opportunities that comes their way positively instead of waiting for help to come from someone.

According to him, “On holidays get something doing. Sell sugarcane, maybe you need only N1,000 to start a business of sugarcane selling or Dates (Dabino) or Tiger nuts (Aya) selling. There are so many things you can do with your lives.

“When we were in school, a primary school, we went to cut grass. I have to cut grass if I want to break for the following morning. So it is possible, there are a lot of work to do but people feel so important that they are beyond certain jobs. Nobody is beyond means of supporting himself. You say you are too big, you cannot sweep the road, pick polythene bags but you go and beg. And if the person doesn’t give you, you abuse the person, which is the worst situation? Waiting for somebody,” he said.

He assured that government will continue to support the education sector in the state particularly that it is it first and topmost priority.

Earlier, the rector of the institution, Dr. Babangida Abubakar Albaba said the institute is fashion out to produce prosperous, self-reliant, innovative and entrepreneurial individuals.

“Here at KSITM, we will aid you to unlock your potentials and make you find your true self. The institute is designed to give you a smooth transition from the academic world into the larger society. You will become innovators and entrepreneurs after the completion of your courses of specialisation.

“You are therefore expected to utilise all the facilities made available to you such as E-library and other online resource materials provided by the institute,” Albaba said.

Meanwhile, the institute matriculated the 136 students in various courses of Networking and System Security (49 students), Software Engineering (41 students) and Banking Operations (46 students).

Pregnant Ciara involved in a car crash

 According to TMZ, singer Ciara who is pregnant and in her third trimester, was in West LA driving her Mercedes G-Wagon, as she was about to make a left turn, a Volvo SUV drove into the passenger side of her SUV. Eyewitnesses initially said she clutched onto her chest and shoulder as she talked to someone on the phone but appeared to be ok later. There was no Ambulance at the scene and she did seem to be ok, from the video shared by TMZ online. Her husband Russell Wilson took to twitter to say this about his wife.

Barrack Obama's vindictive half-brother releases photo of Barrack's alleged Kenyan birth certificate and declares his support for Trump

Malik Obama's recent behaviour towards his half-brother, Barrack Obama, brings to mind that Yoruba proverb that translates to 'It's people who know you that betray you".

Malik has not made secret the fact that he is not in support of his brother and in a recent attack on Barack, he posted an image of a Kenyan birth certificate which he claims belongs to the former US president. See it after the cut...

During Barrack's presidency, he was plagued with accusations of being born abroad, hence not a true American. Donald Trump promoted the birther movement that made this allegation to question the legitimacy of his presidency and now, years later, Malik is bringing it up again. The older Obama brother tweeted a birth certificate photo that has the letterhead of the Coast Province General Hospital in Mombasa and claimed it was proof that Barrack was born in Mombasa, Kenya.

Turns out the birth certificate was a fake. In 2009, a man called Lucas Smith had put up the same forged document for sale on eBay, but it was removed because the website has a policy that bans the selling of purported government documents. Beside, Barrack already replied to the allegations about his birth by releasing a copy of his long-form birth certificate in 2011

Malik also tweeted his support for Trump. Since before the election, he's been very vocal about his support for the new president, saying Obama had done nothing for his Kenyan family so doesn't deserve his support and this got him an invitation from Trump to attend the October 19 debate against Hillary Clinton in Las Vegas where he got to meet and take a photo with Trump's adviser, Kellyanne Conway.

Malik's opposition of his half-brother is believed to be because Barrack did not meet his expectations by providing financial support for him and the other Kenyan family members and also because he had run for governor of the southwestern Kenyan county of Siaya in 2013 and Barrack did little to help him.

"I'm very proud of my brother, but I would like for him to do a little bit more for the family on this side. I would like to say he could send some money. I give money when asked. That's what family is for. We're not well off, though people think we are," Malik had said in an old interview with The Post.

Nigerian and Cameroonian troops weed out Boko Haram terrorists in joint clearance operation on border towns

In order to clear fleeing Boko Haram terrorists hibernating within remote and border areas, Nigerian and Cameroonian troops have carried out another joint operation to weed out Boko Haram terrorists along Nigeria and Cameroon border. The two days joint operation which was led by Col Dourai and Lt Col Mohaman of the Cameroonian Defence Forces had troops drawn from the Cameroon’s Battalion Rapid Intervention (BRI) and 151 Task Force Battalion of 21 Brigade, Nigerian Army.

During the operation which ended yesterday Tuesday, troops of the two countries cleared Siyara, Kote, Sigawa and proceeded to Bulabundibe towns. Other areas cleared include AdeleKe, Tchatike and Lamukura villages.

While conducting the operation the troops came in contact with Boko Haram terrorists and neutralized many of them, apprehended 2 others, while many other terrorists escaped with gunshot wounds.

The Troops further recovered an unserviceable Toyota Canter, 7 Dane Guns and 5 Boko Haram terrorists flags, 4 vehicle tyres, 2 Motorcycles and vehicle spare parts

While Addressing the Joint troops, at the conclusion of the clearance operation, the team leader, Col Dourai, stated that the operation was carried out to secure both countries’ borders from the menace of the Boko Haram terrorists.

He further commended the Nigeria Army and the conduct of the troops.

Former military governor of Edo state, Samuel Ogbemudia has died

Former Military governor of Edo state, Samuel Ogbemudia, has died. Family sources say he died at about 11pm yesterday. He was 84 years old. He was a military Governor of the Mid-West State, later renamed Bendel State, part of which became Edo State. He was in office from 1967 - 1975. May his soul rest in peace, Amen.

Housewife charged with murdering her maid, brutally beating another maid

A 42-year-old Malaysian housewife was today, March 10th, charged with murdering her Indonesian maid and brutally abusing her Cambodian maid last month.

Chan Lay Lee was charged at two separate courts for murdering Zubaedah, 38, and causing grievous hurt to Anad, 22.
On the murder charge, Chan was accused of committing the offence at her home in Lebuhraya Jelutong here, between 11am and 4.45pm, on Feb 26.

President Buhari Returns To Nigeria Friday

Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, is expected to return to the country on Friday, March 10, 2017.


This was revealed in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President, Femi Adesina.The President left the country on January 19, 2017 for a vacation, during which he had routine medical check-ups.

The holiday was extended based on doctors’ recommendations for further tests and rest.

He was initially billed to spend 10 days and resume work on February 6.

Actor Prince Uche has died

Actor Prince James Uche who has been battling with Diabetes, Blindness, BP and kidney disease, has died. He died this afternoon March 8th at a private medical hospital in Festac town where he had been for two years now. He had been unconcious for the past 5 days and was on his way for dialysis in an ambulance when he died at 2:15pm. He was scheduled to travel to India this Saturday for further treatment. He was 55 years old.

He is survived by a wife and three children. May his soul rest in peace, Amen.

5 dead as Hausa, Yoruba communities clash in Osun

Five persons have been reported dead following a clash between Hausa and Yoruba communities in Osun. According to the reports, areas that were most volatile with the clash are the Sabo, Lagere and Olaoluwa areas of Ile-Ife, Osun state. The official cause of the clash is yet to be ascertained but reports alleged that some Hausa men were accused of raping and harassing wives of Yoruba men in the Sabo area of Ile-Ife. As a result, the Yoruba men attacked the Hausa community in a clash that erupted Tuesday and culminated into a deadly one on Wednesday.

In the pictures available so far, some of the victims are seen burnt to ashes with a tyre still hanging on one of them in the street.

The report also has it that the Sabo area has been completely locked down as all the stalls belonging to the Hausas situated in Lagere area have been completely destroyed along with the goods.

Wives To Stop Unrealistic Demands From Husbands

Female lawyers in Abuja have called on women to resist the temptation to make unrealistic demands compelling their husbands to cut corners.

They said on Wednesday that the manner in which some women rebuked their husbands was largely responsible for the widespread corruption.

They were speaking on the occasion of the International Women’s Day with the theme: “Be Bold for Change’’.

Electoral Institute Trains Staff On Mediation

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday said it had trained 50 directing staff on Electoral Alternative Dispute Resolution (EADR) and workplace mediation.

Mrs Ngozi Oghuma, Director, Alternative Dispute Resolution Directorate of INEC’s Electoral Institute, in Abuja said that the training was targeted at the effective and efficient conduct of elections in Nigeria.

Oghuma explained that workplace mediation was a confidential, informal and voluntary process where an impartial mediator facilitated communication between persons in a dispute.

Man Arrested For Raping 3-Year-Old Stepdaughter

Police on Wednesday in Niger arrested a 45-year-old-man, over alleged rape of his three-year-old stepdaughter.

The suspect was arrested in Kundu, a village in Rafi Local Government Area of the state.

Abdullahi Mayaki, Police Inspector attached to the state Child Rights Protection Agency, said that the mother of the girl, Malama Fatima Bawa, reported the matter to the agency.

Shocking Confession! Boko Haram Paid Me N200 – Suicide Bomber

An 18-year-old Boko Haram suicide bomber, Amina, who was intercepted by men of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Tuesday in Maiduguri, said she was given N200 for the mission.

She told our correspondent in Maiduguri that she was abducted two years ago by the sect members in Madagali, Adamawa, and taken to Sambisa forest.

“They gave us N200 each which they said we should use to buy food for ourselves.

“It took us three days to come to Maiduguri on a motorcycle. We were directed by the sect members to detonate our explosives any where we saw any form of gathering.

“They said if we press the button, the bomb would explode and we will automatically go to heaven.

Trump signs executive order on revised travel ban - Iraq removed from the list

US President, Donald Trump has just signed a new and updated executive order banning immigration from six Muslim-majority countries, notably dropping Iraq from January's previous order.  

The new travel ban comes six weeks after Trump's original executive order was rolled out amid chaos and confusion at airports in the United States and eventually blocked by a federal court. 

The new executive order still temporary bans Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. And it won't take effect till March 16th. And it doesn't affect green card holders and those with valid visas. Hopefully, US federal judges will stop this too.
